Once known as the Burmah Rally, the Argyll Rally’s roots run deep into British rallying folklore. Originating in the early 1970s, it was a proving ground for motorsport legends like Roger Clark and Jimmy McRae, carving their paths through the region’s rugged gravel tracks.
Fast forward to the modern era and, after a 13-year hiatus, the Argyll Rally roared back into action in 2017. Swapping the forests for the flowing closed public roads of Argyll in 2021, the event has since become one of the UK’s most celebrated stage rallies, famed for its breathtaking scenery, passionate fans, and challenging asphalt mileage.
The rally’s allure has sparked fresh enthusiasm across all levels of the sport. Inspired by the rally and bitten by its bug, husband-and-wife team David and Jenny Robertson embarked on a journey to try their hand at the sport and contest their home event.
Firstly, in a Vauxhall Nova, the 2023 Argyll Rally marked their competitive debut, inspired by the event’s unique atmosphere and accessibility, but sadly, a non-finish was on the cards. In 2024, the arrival of a Ford Focus made for a new experience, and despite a few tribulations along the way, the duo made it to their first rally finish together.
Now firmly hooked, they return in 2025 with a new weapon; a Ford Fiesta, aiming to build on their experience and cross the finish line once again!
Good luck on your third attempt guys!
